Vivo V9: Is This The Perfect Selfie Phone Under 25k?

Talk about selfie-centric devices under 25k, and you have a bunch of choices. Vivo V9, which was recently launched in April’18, promises to be one of the better smart phones, but does it deliver? Before you take the call, here’s what we found to be great.

Know your new Vivo V9

Vivo V9 is priced at about 23k, and at that price, it would compete with Oppo F7, which was also launched around the same time. Going by the launch date, Vivo V9 is the first phone in that price to come up with the display notch, and yes, you cannot deny its resemblance to iPhone X. In fact, for those who cannot get Apple’s new launch would have to settle for V9, which feels like a cheaper and distant cousin.

What’s on offer?

V9 gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 2.2GHz Octa-core processor, with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card. The 6.3-inch FHD+ touchscreen display is incredibly appealing with resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. It runs on a 3260mAh non-removable battery and gets Android 8.1 out of the box. V9 uses Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 skin, which can feel different for stock Android users. True to its name, this is a selfie device, with a 24 MP camera on the front. On the rear, you get a 16 MP + 5 MP setup. Vivo V9 gold weighs just 150 grams, which is pretty sleek for the price and size.

Worth the price?

If you compare Vivo V9 with Oppo F7, the similarities in performance are striking, and in all fairness, it might be hard to take a call. In terms of hardware and heavy usage, we really like V9, although it would have been good to see 6 GB RAM at that price. Selfie addicts won’t mind these small bummers for a front shooter that’s good from the word go. Even in low lighting, the response was amazing. We didn’t have image quality issues from what’s expected from the dual camera setup on the rear. Our take away from Vivo V9 is the display, which is worthy at the price. Yes, the battery could have been better for sure, and we did miss the USB Type-C port on the device, but overall, V 9 doesn’t fail to impress.
